It takes good writing to make a memorable story and great voice acting to create an unforgettable experience—and it’s no secret that the 2018 God of War duology knocks both out of the park.
Critically acclaimed for its unconventional take on a well-known mythology, the series features unique performances to complement fresh takes on well-known deities. While both games have a phenomenal cast and story, it’s in God of War: Ragnarok that the whole Norse pantheon comes into play.

Main voice acting cast of God of War: Ragnarok
Christopher Judge as Kratos
It would have been more of a surprise if Christopher Judge hadn’t reprised his role as Kratos. The signature cadence of his dry quips and noncommittal grunts have become an essential part of the duology’s core identity, helping set the reboot series apart from the original games. While most of Judge’s acting career is more live-action focused, he’s no stranger to video game roles—most recently, you may recognize him as Black Panther from Marvel’s Avengers.
Sunny Suljic as Atreus
It’s no wonder that Atreus’s adolescent turmoil and teenager-isms in Ragnarok feel so organic—reprising his role as Atreus’s voice and motion capture actor, Sunny Suljic has grown up alongside the young and unsure Loki in the years between the production cycles. So far, the talented young actor already has an extensive repertoire of live-action appearances, including in some high-profile series like Criminal Minds.
Deborah Ann Woll as Laufey/Faye
The dead wife and mother whose absence shaped the first game finally gets an on-screen role in Ragnarok, albeit with limited screen time and only in flashbacks. Still, it’s safe to say that Deborah Ann Woll took what might have been a bland and cliche archetype character and made her unforgettable with a perfect blend of otherworldly mystery and personable charm. Tabletop enthusiasts might recognize Woll as a prolific game master in series like Children of Éarte or The Lost Odyssey.
Ben Prendergast as Týr
You wouldn’t expect a god of war to be soft-spoken, but Týr’s serene demeanor is just another way Ragnarok breaks the mold. Behind the gentle giant’s eloquent and calm nature is Ben Prendergast, who also reprises the role in the Valhalla DLC. As a well-established video game voice actor, you might recognize Prendergast from titles like Diablo IV, Exoprimal, and Tactics Ogre: Reborn.
Ryan Hurst as Thor
Marvel might have sold a majestic and heroic Thor to the world at large, but Ragnarok takes a different route to paint a compelling and deeply human portrait of a crass fighter, a struggling father, a mistreated son, and more. Ryan Hurst does a phenomenal job of bringing this complicated antagonist to life—while his repertoire is more live-action focused overall you might recognize him as Beta in The Walking Dead TV series.
Richard Schiff as Odin
Contrary to what general audiences might believe about the King of Asgard, portraying him as a spindly, conniving old man isn’t too far off the mark. Concealing a power-hungry ambition behind a candid charisma, Ragnarok’s Odin gets his carefully curated demeanor from Richard Schiff’s expert performance. You’ll most likely recognize him as the Secretary of State from Wakanda Forever or Dr. Emil Hamilton in Man of Steel.
Laya DeLeon Hayes as Angrboda
Turning the Mother of Monsters into a delightful young woman with her own inner turmoil and teenage awkwardness is a bold move that more than pays off in Ragnarok. Despite her relatively limited screentime, Angrboda’s role is a difficult one to fill due to the emotional complexity of her story segment—but Laya DeLeon Hayes rises to the occasion and pushes it even further for an unforgettable performance. Hayes has a variety of voice acting roles in her repertoire, but you can catch more of her talent in her most recent long-running role as Delilah Fulton on The Equalizer.
Freya, Heimdall, and other new and returning voices
Of course, major returning players and new supporting characters fill out the rest of Ragnarok’s talented cast list. Danielle Bisutti reprises her role as the iron-willed Freya, Alistair Duncan returns to voice while Mimir’s quintessential quips and stories, and Robert Craighead and Adam J. Harrington are at peak performance as Brok and Sindri, respectively.
