You can only acquire Hardened Remnants after completing the main story. After doing so, you eventually receive a new Favor mission called “The Last Remnants of Asgard,” which tasks you with tracking down all the ten Remnants of Asgard. They are littered across all nine realms, located in Einherjar camps, so you’ll have to take on these warriors to get them.

The areas holding these Remnants are the Lake of Nine in Midgard, Jarnsmida Pitmines in Svartalfheim, The Burning Cliffs in Musphelheim, The Alberich Hollow in Svartalfheim, Frey’rs Camp in Vanaheim, The Barrens in Alfheim, The Aurvangar Wetlands in Svartalfheim, The Strond in Alfheim, The Well of Urd in Midgard, and The Eastern Barri Woods in Vanaheim.

The specific locations can also be found on the in-game map. Once you get to each area, you encounter several Einherjar enemies that spawn immediately, ranging from regular hordes to various mini-bosses. Once you defeat them, a chest holding the Hardened Remnant spawn with some Hacksilver.

Hardened Remnants can be given to Lunda to upgrade your gear to level 9, including Kratos’ armor, shields, and axe pommels. These upgrades prove very useful when challenging the toughest bosses in the game, usually fought post-game, such as Valkyrie Queen Gna, King Hrolf, and several berserkers.
