Rotating buildings can help you add detail to the finer parts your base in Age of Mythology: Retold. It’s a good way to ensure your buildings don’t block each other, and makes it easy to create an aesthetically pleasing base. The way you rotate buildings can be a little complicated, but we’ll explain.

Rotating buildings requires two simultaneous inputs, but they aren’t prominent on the hotkey menu. First, you need one of your workers ready to create a structure, so you can see the highlighted silhouette of the building. Then, while you have the building up, hold the Shift key and scroll the mouse wheel. The command Shift + Mouse Wheel Up or Down rotates the building in different directions.

You can do this on any structure in Age of Mythology: Retold. Rotating buildings is critical if you’re creating walls or want to keep your houses as close together as possible. There’s a limited amount of space available, and it’s especially important when you’re trying to withstand attacks from an enemy force.

Ensuring the proper placement of gates and guard towers can help protect your base from attacks. Feel free to play around with the structures before you place them down, too. You might prefer one direction over another. Thankfully, though, many military buildings aren’t too impacted if you mess up and don’t place them in the best direction. Rotating the direction of a building in Age of Mythology: Retold makes it easier to manage your base, especially if you’re jumping around to the frontlines of a battle and then back to your base to rearm your forces.
