Genshin Impact’s newest locale, Natlan, is filled with colorful collectibles and quests. Some of these collectibles, named Obsidian Fragments, are used to craft powerful rings that allow you to unlock secret Treasure Troves around the map.
While there are six great Tribes found throughout Natlan, only three are currently accessible with the 5.0 update. The current three Tribes we can visit each have their own Obsidian Fragments, which correspond to their culture. Here’s everything you need to know about collecting and using Green, Azure, and Yellow Obsidian Fragments in Genshin.

Where to find Obsidian Fragments in Genshin Impact
All three Obsidian Fragments can only be found by opening Precious and Luxurious Chests in Natlan. The color of Obsidian Fragments found in chests varies depending on your current location. When you open Precious or Luxurious Chests in specific areas of Natlan, there’s an automatic RNG chance you’ll obtain one of these colored Obsidian Fragments. If you get unlucky, opening all the rare chests in these areas will eventually guarantee Obsidian Fragments.
Each of the three tribes in Natlan value different colored Obsidian Fragments, and you’ll have to collect three of each color to craft three different Obsidian Rings. Here’s where you can find each Obsidian Fragment in Genshin‘s 5.0 update.
1) Yellow Obsidian Fragments
All Yellow Obsidian Fragments are found closer to the Children of Echoes Tribe. This Tribe’s the first you’ll encounter in Natlan. It’s full of citizens who paint the walls of their canyon with colorful graffiti.
Many of the Precious and Luxurious Chests can be found buried under the ground as this tribe’s deeply connected to the mountains and stones in the region. If you enter the Saurians in this region, you’ll take control of a large dragon that can dig out underground chests that have a chance to contain Yellow Obsidian Fragments.
2) Green Obsidian Fragments
The second Tribe you run into while exploring Natlan are the Scions of the Canopy. These NPCs live amongst tall trees, and opening chests in this area of the map can award you with Green Obsidian Fragments.
Since this area has a high verticality, using the Saurians in this portion of Natlan will transform your character into a large green raptor. This raptor can use its tongue to latch onto trees and swing around. Most of the chests in this area are hidden high on top of mountains or trees, so use the Saurian to find some loot and Green Obsidian Fragments.
3) Azure Obsidian Fragments
The People of the Springs make up the third and final Tribe in Natlan. This Tribe lives next to the ocean and has a deep connection to aquatic life. By taking control of Saurians, you can transform into large sharks, capable of swimming incredibly fast and jumping out of the water.
Searching for rare chests in this area will net you an Azure Obsidian Fragment. Many of the chests involve puzzles in the water, so prepare for a lengthy swim.
How to craft and use Obsidian Rings in Genshin
Once you’ve collected three Obsidian Fragments of the same color, open your inventory and use the Craft button to form a Yellow, Azure, or Green Obsidian Ring. The Obsidian Ring will remain in your bag until it’s consumed to open a barrier in front of a Treasure Trove.
Each Tribe in Natlan has a secret Treasure Trove located within their cities, and every Trove is blocked by a glowing barrier. To cleanse this barrier and access the Genshin treasure, you’ll need to use a corresponding Obsidian Ring.
Only a Yellow Obsidian Ring can open the Treasure Trove located inside the bottom of the canyon where the Children of Echoes Tribe live. Similarly a Green Obsidian Ring will remove the barrier in the Scions of the Canopy village, which is located below the wooden bridge that leads up to the main city. Finally, an Azure Obsidian Ring will open the Treasure Trove located in a cave to the right of the People of the Springs Tribe.
