Changes won't happen overnight.

Helldivers 2 isn’t in its best state right now, and it might be a good time to take a break from the game (unless you already did), even according to the developer.

“I hope you’ll stick around, but there’s nothing wrong with playing a game and revisiting it at a later state, especially a live service one that’s being worked on continuously,” Helldivers 2 community manager Twinbeard wrote in a Reddit thread on Aug. 19 in response to players declaring they’re quitting the game.

The studio launched a plan to “mitigate several of the worst issues, among which is specifically not balancing for data’s or balancing’s sake but rather to have more fun when playing, ragdolling, game performance and other key areas where the sentiment is not where we want it to be ATM.”

Twinbeard explained that it takes time to “swing a large ship around,” especially when the majority of the dev team is on vacation, including Arrowhead Game Studios creative director Johan Pilestedt, as CEO Shams Jorjani mentioned.

Helldivers 2 has been in a tight spot after the release of the Escalation of Freedom update in early August. While the update brought a few fun additions to the game, including the return of the Impaler from the original game, many players were frustrated by Arrowhead’s approach to weapon balance.

On Aug. 13, game director Mikael Eriksson shared that over the next 60 days, the developer aims to re-examine its approach to balance, update the fire damage mechanic, re-think the design approach for primary weapons, rework Chargers, and more.

The studio’s plan is promising. However, as some players pointed out, it already made similar promises a few months ago, and not much has changed, leaving many doubtful about what will happen next.
