The popular H2M mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered set to release tomorrow has been shut down thanks to a cease-and-desist order from Activision.

H2M, which added a slew of quality-of-life updates such as Prestige mode levels and camos, as well as all the Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps, weapons, and more to the 2017 CoD 4 remaster, had catapulted the game to the top of Steam’s top seller list earlier this week. It was set to be a completely free mod.

But before its widespread release, the CoD publisher stepped in to take action after sales had slowed down. Now, H2M is “complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently.”

At time of writing, the H2M website is no longer live. The mod only needed the CoD: MW Remastered game on Steam, along with an H2M Mod Launcher, to operate but the launcher wasn’t allowed to launch at all.

As we reported on Monday, Aug. 12, the mod’s popularity drew lots of attention from the community, setting it directly in Activision’s sights for a shutdown, which it is well within its rights to do thanks to owning all of the content in question.

Earlier in the week, CoD: MW Remastered had been in the top three of Steam’s top sellers for the week, in good company with games like Counter-Strike 2, The First Descendant, and Elden Ring. But it was also ahead of pre-orders for the upcoming Black Ops 6, which likely didn’t sit well with Activision either way.

GGs to everyone involved at H2M, because the footage of the mod in action looked like the MW2 2009 remaster that everyone wanted but never got. In 2020, the MW2 Campaign Remastered game was released with single-player content only, while 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 featured all 16 2009 OG MW2 maps remade.
