Since its release in 2019, Apex Legends has become a household name in the battle royale genre with its hectic gameplay and frequent content patches that keep the game fresh for all the players.
From ranked seasons to new legends, Apex changes with every major patch, and players need to adapt to the new conditions if they’re looking to achieve higher ranks with each new season. New conditions include changes with the metagame, buffs and nerfs to various weapons, and in some cases changes to characters’ hitboxes.
Here are all the hitboxes for each Apex legend, as of Season 18.
Why do Apex hitbox sizes matter?
In addition to determining which weapon to pick up as you scour the map for loot, some players may not realize that choosing your character also affects just how big of a target you are. Unlike in other FPS games like VALORANT, not all of the legends in Apex have the same size or shape hitbox. Caustic and Wraith, for example, are two legends on the extreme end of the different sizes, and Caustic has a much larger hitbox compared to Wraith.
Though a large hitbox may seem like an outright disadvantage, Apex tries to balance out the difference with perks like the Fortified ability, which reduces the overall damage taken for legends with large hitboxes. Respawn also used the Low Profile passive to mitigate the advantage characters with smaller hitboxes had, but developers have since removed it from the game and tweaked several hitboxes.
Some players will enjoy playing legends with large hitboxes due to them being tankier while others will try making use of the legends with smaller hitboxes and their flexibility.
All hitbox sizes in Apex Legends
Each legend in Apex has unique physical characteristics, from their builds to their armor and other technology they use. Yet despite no two legends looking the exact same, there are only five different sizes of hitboxes in the game.
The five hitbox sizes in Apex are Small, Small and Tall, Medium, Medium and Wide, and Large.
Small
There are three legends with Small hitboxes: Lifeline, Wattson, and Wraith. It’s important to note Respawn has been pushing the size of the small and medium-sized hitboxes closer together, and there are only slight differences between the two.
Small and Tall
Only two legends have the Small and Tall, also known as Skinny and Tall, hitboxes, and those are our robotic friends Pathfinder and Revenant.
Medium
Most of the legends in the game have Medium hitboxes. Those are Bangalore, Ash, Bloodhound, Catalyst, Crypto, Fuse, Horizon, Loba, Mad Maggie, Mirage, Octane, Rampart, Seer, and Valkyrie. While there are minor differences between all legends with medium hitboxes, most will be negligible, such as Valkyrie’s wing attachments protruding out farther than other characters.
Medium and Wide
There is only one character model that uses the Medium and Wide hitbox, and that is Vantage. Her height is the same as those with Medium hitboxes, but her body is just slightly wider.
Large
The four legends with the Large hitbox, and therefore the Fortified perk, are Ballistic, Caustic, Gibraltar, and Newcastle. Caustic, Gibraltar, and Newcastle have large hitboxes, and as such are the only characters in the game with the Fortified perk.
Each legend’s hitbox is subject to changes with each new season meta change, so if your main feels different after a patch, it could be one of the reasons why.
Respawn doesn’t release detailed information regarding characters’ hitboxes, so therefore most data on the subject comes from the game’s community. There’s often limited information available regarding the hitboxes of brand-new legends in Apex, meaning players will need to guesstimate their hitboxes based on the information available.
