Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 features a wealth of memorable boss fights for players to tackle, some of which are considerably harder than others. With that in mind, we’ve ranked every Spider-Man 2 boss in order of difficulty.
With a plethora of villains and several cameos to boot, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 provides a gripping narrative full of edge-of-your-seat moments and challenging bosses.
Admittedly, some of the boss fights are easier than you may anticipate and can be navigated without too much difficulty, with harder challenges coming at higher difficulty levels—though you’ll have to beat the game to unlock Ultimate difficulty.
However, there’s still enough of a threat to cause issues if you aren’t tuned in and paying attention, particularly with the five boss fights we have ranked below. Be warned, there are spoilers ahead if you are yet to complete the game.
5. Lizard
Kraven the Hunter’s desire to face off against the fiercest superheroes and villains leads him to reactivate Curt Connors’ transformation into the Lizard on a much grander scale, resulting in one of the most memorable missions in the story.
You’ll chase the Lizard throughout New York, fending off Kraven’s Hunters in the process, before tracking the Lizard into the sewers—which serves as the arena for a challenging and unforgettable battle.
Defeating the Lizard requires the use of Symbiote powers, gadgets, your webs, and the environment, with vents that can stun the Lizard, while avoiding attacks that cannot be parried and timing your parries perfectly against those that can.
There are three stages to the Lizard boss fight, with the first seeing the villain prioritize ground attacks and the second increasing his rage, resulting in him climbing the walls and using more ranged attacks. In the third, it’s a mixture of both approaches with faster and more damaging attacks—including a roar that messes with the Symbiote.
Patience, skill, and timing are required if you are to take down the Lizard, who provides an extremely challenging test.
4. Kraven the Hunter
Kraven the Hunter is the main villain for the first half of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and is a foe you will face off against a few times, though the first battle, in particular, will show the iconic villain’s full strength.
The first fight sees you control Peter Parker and is split into three stages. In the first stage, Kraven shows off his strength and speed with deadly lunges that can inflict significant damage, so you need to time your dodges and parries perfectly.
In the second stage, Kraven utilizes a bell to mess with the Symbiote Peter is wearing, requiring you to web up the bell so it stops, and he also calls in some reinforcements to assist him. In the third, Kraven can now become invisible and can blur your vision, as well as take shots from a distance, call in more allies, and ring the pesky bell once again.
Due to the story development, you don’t actually “win” this battle, per se, but you do get revenge later on when the Symbiote fully takes hold of Harry Osborn to create Venom, resulting in another memorable fight with a rather brutal ending.
3. Symbiote Spider-Man
Teasers shown in the build-up to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 hinted that the Symbiote would change Peter Parker’s personality and approach, which was certainly the case and resulted in one of the most memorable scenes in the game.
Taking place immediately after the face-off with Kraven the Hunter, Miles Morales stops Peter from unleashing the full power of the Symbiote but earns the wrath of the gooey alien, leading to a mega battle.
Like many other battles, the fight is split into three phases with various moves to counter, block, or dodge. While you will have a bell that can be used to stun Peter, allowing you to take the opportunity to inflict significant damage, it’s not a fight for the faint-hearted.
That is particularly applicable when hit with an attack that knocks you into the air, where you’ll take a massive amount of damage unless you heal mid-air, and the attacks used in phases two and three of the fight cannot be parried.
The most challenging aspect of this battle, however, is the sense of shock you will encounter the first time you experience it. With some emotional pleas from Miles tied into cutscenes and mid-battle dialogue, it’s easy to get distracted.
2. Scream
Much like the showdown against Peter himself, the faceoff between Peter Parker and Scream occurs following a particularly shocking development that sees Mary Jane possessed by a Symbiote.
The three stages of the fight against Scream are split across multiple areas, where you can utilize areas of the environment to aid you in the battle by stunning Scream, but you’ll have to be alert throughout to dodge some devastating attacks.
Scream uses her long, red hair to inflict significant damage, some of which cannot be parried, and you’ll be distracted throughout by brilliant dialogue that delves deeper into Peter and MJ’s relationship, particularly the struggles of finding balance while undertaking the duties of Spider-Man.
The battle with Scream takes place at a significant turning point in the story, which likely plays a huge part in Peter’s decision at the end of the game to essentially hand the city off to Miles and focus on his ordinary life, at least for a while.
1. Venom
Who else to top the list than the big, bad Symbiote himself? Throughout the story in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a major showdown with Venom is teased and developed, which does not disappoint when it eventually comes around.
There are four stages to the fight, the first two of which take place in an arena split into three sections, where you will need to transition to avoid AOE attacks on the ground. In the second stage, you’ll also have to fend off Symbiote minions before utilizing Anti-Venom attacks to deal damage to Venom.
Throughout it all, Venom can hit you with some huge attacks that can quickly dwindle your health bar, but there are environmental attacks that can be used to stun Venom and create an opening to inflict significant damage of your own.
A cutscene then shows Venom spawning huge wings and flying across the map to the Emily May Foundation, where Peter is knocked unconscious and Miles takes over. Now with wings to utilize, Venom can take up an aerial position and launch projectiles, which must be dodged or sent flying back toward him.
In the final phase, Venom is the most threatening he has been so far and poses an even bigger threat, so you’ll need to utilize everything to your advantage—including parries, dodges, Miles’ electric attacks, and the environment.
Throughout all phases of the battle against Venom, the dialogue will continually show Peter and Miles pleading for Harry to stay strong and fight off the Symbiote, while there are a few cutscenes that are just as distracting.
