Cheating in single-player games generally doesn’t make much sense as it ruins the experience, but devoted Bethesda fans have started using cheats in Starfield to avoid the game’s frustrating temples at all costs.
On Oct. 21, a Starfield fan wrote on Reddit that the game’s temple mechanic had finally broken them, and they were using cheats to get around it. They said they never cheated in any Bethesda game and completed all the temples in the first playthrough, but they just couldn’t bring themselves to go through it again in New Game+.
Temples in Starfield are used to acquire powers in the first playthrough, and then level them up in NG+. There are 24 temples in total, and each available power can be leveled all the way to level 10, meaning you will need to complete 240 Temples to max out all the powers.
The most annoying part is that every temple has the same minigame for you to complete. The gameplay doesn’t change and according to the OP, neither does the difficulty.
The rest of the community isn’t super excited about this too and have developed a solid workaround. One player shared a mod they use to make power leveling more fun. The mod, called Starborn’s Bounty, will grant you a random reward upon killing a Starborn enemy, including randomly ranking up one of your powers.
This mod was created specifically to make NG+ less grindy and give Starborns more purpose in the game. Players agreed that the mod gives the process a more Skyrim-like feel when you absorb a dragon’s spirit.
It’s not that the minigame is completely terrible, as many fans agree the mysterious feel is a good break from the rest of the game, especially when completing it for the first time. However, after completing it a few times “you can’t even give them credit for that first time” since there’s no variety at all.
Whether this will be changed by Bethesda is unclear but so far there’s no clear roadmap or dates when we can expect major updates to Starfield.
